Merry Yule Tides

This Holiday Season will be spent in the almost internet-free home of my mother. So, because of this I’ve decided to post two wonderful MST3K epissodes for you to enjoy ’til I get back.

Let’s be naughty and save Santa the trip.

Useful Caffeine

We’ve all been to lectures with slide shows. Be they PowerPoint or Keynote, there is still one problem that seems to come up every single time. Automatic sleep mode or dimming. It’s not an obvious problem at all times, but if you run on battery power, you will know what I mean.

That’s where this small, free, and utterly useful little app comes in: Caffeine from Lighthead Software. It’s an app that places a small icon in your menu bar, click it and you computer won’t go to sleep nor dim the screen. This is, as I said useful in presentations. But you know what, it works wonders on a laptop when playing YouTube or Google Videos as well. See, full screen flash for some reason, does not register as full screen video to Mac OS X (Tiger at least), and there for dims the screen when no mouse or keyboard use is detected.

Anyway, just thought I’d pass this gem along!

Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation.

The Twilit Cinema presents: ‘Rudolph’

Here is a lovely version of the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer story, in cosy stop-motion and glorious technicolor!

Knowledge Navigator

Once upon a time Apple was ruled by a man called John Sculley. This was a man of vision. His main vision was the ‘Knowledge Navigator‘, which in many ways was sort of a merge of Macintosh, HyperCard, the coming Newton and some magic… However, to this day we have not seen a product of this kind.

But, think about it. The combo of an iPhone and a Macintosh equipped with MacSpeech Dictate, Spark, Automater and a few other bit and bobs such as Skype, Go to meeting etc., and in a roundabout way you are nearly there. Think about it for a while. The ultimate sci-fi fantasy (reality based at least) is sort of a reality today. Now imagin what we fantasise about in this manner today, and look twenty years ahead. Who knows what will come, but I think it will be pretty cool!

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Ze TED video…

Goolgling around on this vast ocean we call the InterWebs, I found the aforementioned Zefrank TED video, clogging the tubes around senator Ted Stevens house no less!

Just a reminder, what other people think of you is none of your business.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. But from the cat’s perspective, they all suck.

Trying to defeat an ideology by killing individuals is like trying to save a marriage with a blowjob. It might buy you some time, but in the end it’ll just suck.
